ASHEVILLE, N.C. – On a "Chamber of Commerce Day" on the campus of UNC Asheville, the men's soccer program held an Open Training Week session for the second straight year on Wednesday, April 3, at Greenwood Field.

"It's an awesome thing that the United Soccer Coaches Association are doing to encourage not only college teams, but pro teams to do open training sessions," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "I think it's really cool for us to be able to pull the curtains back on our process to our local community. I think our local community, especially here in Asheville, are very connected with us, but it's still an opportunity for us to invite them in to see what players are doing on a day-to-day basis with many of them players they have had a chance to develop."

The Open Training Week sessions are designed for those in the community to see what others like the Bulldogs are doing to advance the beautiful game, but also at the same time show that even at the higher levels the game translates roughly the same.

"I think it's also great no matter what level you coach at to go and see a higher level with maybe older or mature players to find out that the game is pretty much the same," Mennell noted. "Certainly the activities are similar in nature, but just done a little faster and a little bit more clean based on the quality of the players. For us to be a part of that it's awesome. I cannot think of a better way to spend a Wednesday afternoon than on Greenwood Field with the sun on your back watching the Bulldogs train."
