Track and Field to Close Out Regular Season at Don McGarey Invitational

KENNESAW, Ga. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams are scheduled to compete at the Don McGarey Invitational on the campus of Kennesaw State on April 26-27.

The Don McGarey Invitational will be the final meet that UNC Asheville will compete in before the Big South Conference Championships on May 8-10.

Last Time Out – Duke Invitational
UNC Asheville competed in the Duke Invitational on the campus of Duke University on April 19-20.

In the women's 3000m steeplechase, Kelley Coleman secured a top 20 finish with a time of 11:28.61 while Morgan Costelloe finished 10 spots behind her teammate with a time of 12:10.79.

Madeline Nichols finished in the top half of all competitors in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:50.87.

Desire Brown finished three seconds away from a first-place finish in the women's 400m with a finish of 57.51.  

UNC Asheville finished 16th overall in the women's 4x100 relay. Claudia Prieto Alcaide, Desire Brown, Asia Washington and Kindra Mingo ran a time of 48.22.

UNC Asheville had two athletes finish in the top 15 in the men's 3000m steeplechase. Sage Turner finished 13th with a time of 9:46.20 while Zach Boone finished one spot behind his teammate with a time of 9:47.41.

Graham Parker secured a top 25 finish in what was one of the largest events of the entire meet in the men's 1500m. The junior finished with a time of 4:01.74 in an event that saw 94 competitors cross the finish line. Parker was less than six seconds away from a top 10 finish.

Tyree McFalling finished the men's 400m with a time of 49.83. The junior sprinter was less than three seconds away from a first-place finish.

Victor Mathuthu finished 14th overall in the men's long jump with a jump of 6.80 meters. That jump is now good enough for the third longest jump in UNC Asheville history.
Mathuthu also had the second highest jump in UNC Asheville history in the men's triple jump with a jump of 14.05 meters.

About the Don McGarey Invitational
The Don McGarey Invitational is a two-day meet hosted by Kennesaw State University. The competition will be held at the KSU Outdoor Track and Field Facility on the campus of Kennesaw State.

The first day of the meet is set for Friday, April 26. There will be a total of 10 events on the first day with eight field events and two track events. The events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with women's hammer and the first day of the meet is scheduled to wrap up with the men's 3000m steeplechase at 7:25 p.m.

The second day of the meet will be Saturday, April 27 and will begin at 12:10 p.m. with the women's 4x100m relay. There will be eight field events and 20 track events in the Saturday portion of the meet. The meet will conclude with the men's 4x400m relay at 5:55 p.m.

In total, there will be 38 events in the two-day Don McGarey Invitational.

What's Next?
UNC Asheville Track and Field will compete in the Big South Championships on May 8-10 in Rock Hill, S.C. on the campus of Winthrop University.
