ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell recently announced the addition of AJ DeVivo to the 2019 Bulldog roster.
DeVivo joins the UNC Asheville men's soccer program out of Panther Creek High School in Cary, N.C.
A 5-foot-7, 140-pound midfielder, DeVivo received all-conference and all-region honors in the 4A Triangle 6 Conference as a junior. He finished third in the conference for assists as a junior.
DeVivo did not play high school soccer his senior season to focus on club soccer. The Apex, N.C. native currently plays for 01 Wake FC Raleigh Gold, who were formally known as the 01 XL Rangers. DeVivo's club team is presently ranked No. 1 in North Carolina, No. 2 in the region and No. 6 in the nation by the Youth Soccer Rankings.
"AJ is a great addition to our team,'' Mennell said. "He is a versatile player who has the ability to play in the midfield and can also play right back. A technical player who is very comfortable on the ball, AJ will adjust to the physical demands of the college game very quickly."
DeVivo is the 10th and latest to join an impressive incoming class for the Bulldogs.
Owen Bauer (forward), Giacomo "Jack" Boccuzzi (midfielder) and Noe Varner (midfielder) joined the Bulldogs in February. UNCG transfer Tyson Hichman (forward) and Jarrett Payne (goalkeeper) joined the Bulldogs this past January as mid-year enrollees, while Andrew Rossetti (midfielder/forward), Kaleem Shabout (defender), Larsen Hackworth (midfielder) and Nate Holladay (goalkeeper) were announced as new additions in February.
