Three More School Records Fall on Second Day of CCSA Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Three more school records fell on Thursday at the CCSA Championships, as the UNC Asheville swimming & diving team broke school marks in the 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley and 200 freestyle relay inside the Liberty Natatorium.

Team Standings
UNC Asheville has 313 points and is currently in fifth place. The Bulldogs are ahead of Campbell, Gardner-Webb, North Florida and Howard.
Day Two Preliminary Highlights
500 Freestyle
Five Bulldogs earned berths into the final later on Wednesday. Highlighting the prelims for UNC Asheville was Skylar Rogan breaking the fifth overall school record at the CCSA Championships. The junior clocked a 4:54.50, which bested the school record by 0.02 seconds. Skylar Rogan owned the previous record, which she set at last year's CCSA Championships. With her record-breaking time, she earned a berth to the A Finals with her fifth-place finish.
Also earning a spot in the A Finals was Catherine Allen. The junior swam a 4:59.46 time and placed ninth overall.
Adee Weller was the lone Bulldog representative in the B Finals, as she finished 12th overall in the prelims. She swam a 5:01.60 time to qualify for the finals.
Sydney VandenBerg and Aleta Jewell rounded out the finishes in the preliminaries, as they each claimed a spot in the C Finals. Vandenberg swam a 5:11.57, while Jewell clocked a season best 5:14.27.
Freshman Marlee Burgess also raced in the event, as she finished with a lifetime best 5:41.32.
200 Individual Medley
For the sixth time of the meet, another school record fell, as junior Madison Rogan clocked a 2:05.53 in the 200 IM. She set the previous school record at last year's CCSA Championships, but she improved that mark by 0.12 seconds. With the new school record, she finished ninth overall and a berth in the A Final.
Freshman Lily Sullivan also claimed another spot in a finals race. The rookie earned a lifetime best 2:10.00 mark en route to a spot in the C Finals.
Emma Nelson, Ellis Nelson and Madison-Grace Bristow also competed in the 200 IM. Emma Nelson (2:11.60) and Ellis Nelson (2:11.76, season best) finished behind one another, 31st and 32nd, respectively. Bristow swam a 2:20.43 time, which was a season best for the senior.
50 Freestyle
Morgan Rulevich, who broke UNC Asheville's 200 freestyle record yesterday, earned a sixth-place finish in the preliminary round. The senior posted a 23.36 time and was only 0.12 seconds away from matching the program record. However, her time earned her a spot in the A Final.
Rookie MacKenzie Humphrey finished 37th overall with a lifetime best 24.71 time. Fellow classmate Amelia Ham finished seven spots behind her teammate with a time of 25.07.
Elizabeth Conte and Hannah Bruno placed 47th and 48th, respectively. Conte clocked a season-best time of 25.38, while Bruno earned a lifetime best 25.46.
Skye Lewis clocked a 25.55 and placed 50th overall.
The Bulldog trio, consisting of Jessica Woolfe (24.84), Lauren Dunne (25.82) and Maren Oliver (26.71), swam and all clocked season-best times.
50 Freestyle Time Trials
Senior Haley Bennison swam fast, as she marked a season-best time of 25.82.
100 Freestyle Time Trials
Freshman swimmer Alexis Baker earned a lifetime best mark of 53.99.
Day Two Finals Highlights
500 Freestyle
Skylar Rogan was one of two UNC Asheville representatives in the A Finals, as the junior finished sixth overall. She posted a 4:55.05 time following her record-breaking performance in the prelims. Allen was the second Bulldog in the A Final, and she finished ninth overall. The two Bulldogs combined for 51 team points.
Weller was the lone Bulldog in the B Finals. She shaved off 0.41 seconds from her preliminary time en route to a 13th-place finish.
VandenBerg and Jewell both swam in the C Final. VandenBerg placed 20th overall with a lifetime best 5:06.62, as the senior shaved off nearly five seconds from her preliminary time. Jewell finished 26th with a season-best time of 5:13.92, and she lowered her preliminary time by 0.35 seconds.
200 Individual Medley
Madison Rogan was the lone Asheville swimmer in the A Final. The junior swam a 2:05.91 in the 200 IM finals. Her ninth-place finish gave the Bulldogs 24 team points.
In the C Final, Sullivan clocked a 2:11.46 and contributed team points for the Bulldogs.
50 Freestyle
Rulevich, who clocked a fast 23.36 time in her prelims, finished eighth overall in the A Finals. The senior from Lake Wylie, S.C. earned a 23.56 time and 25 points in the finals.
50 Freestyle Time Trials
Lewis swam in the time trials and swam a 25.52, and Bruno clocked a 25.19 time.
Day Two Relays
200 Freestyle Relay
For the third time on Wednesday, another school record fell, as Rulevich, Weller, Anna Nabors and Humphrey broke the program record in the 200 freestyle relay. The four Bulldogs swam a 1:35.20 time en route to earning 52 team points. That mark bested the previous school record by 0.26 seconds.
School Records Update
UNC Asheville has broken seven school records in the first two days of the CCSA Championship along with one freshman record.
What's Next?
The third day of the 2019 CCSA Championships kicks off on Friday, Feb. 22 at 10 a.m. with the 100 butterfly. The finals will start at 6 p.m., which will house the 400 medley relay and five individual races.
