UNC Asheville Travels to Gardner-Webb for Big South Matchup

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – UNC Asheville's men's soccer team returns to the road in Big South Conference action when it travels to Gardner-Webb for a 4 p.m., Saturday matchup at Greene-Harbison Stadium.
The Bulldogs (3-9-1, 2-3 Big South) are coming off a 7-1 defeat against Big South-leading Campbell, last Saturday. However, the Bulldogs are 2-0 on the road in conference play this season, defeating USC Upstate, September 28, and Winthrop, October 5, in shutout victories.
The last meeting between Asheville and Gardner-Webb saw the Runnin' Bulldogs score a 2-1 victory at Greenwood Field last season.

Real Men Wear Pink
Head coach Mathes Mennell will be wearing a pink polo and pink shoelaces during home matches in the month of October as part of the American Cancer Society's "Real Men Wear Pink Campaign" that gathers community leaders to help raise awareness and money to battle breast cancer. Offensive Attack
Ten different Bulldogs have scored at least one goal so far this season, with junior Tyson Hichman leading the way with four. His goal in the home opener against VMI proved to be the game-winner.
Sophomore Nate Evans has come on strong as of late, scoring the game winner in each of the past two Saturday road conference matches. His goal against USC Upstate proved to be the only one of the match, and he scored the first of three for the Bulldogs against Winthrop, October 5.
As a team, the Bulldogs scored three goals at home against High Point, October 2, in a 4-3 defeat before taking down Winthrop, 3-0. It was the first time since 2010 the Bulldogs had scored three goals in consecutive games.
In addition to Hichman and Evans, Izaiah Vignali, Kyle Adams, Colin Daughtry, Frank Morales, Andrew Rossetti, Noe Varner, Tanner Gilliam and Dino Dziergas have each recorded a goal for the Bulldogs, while Adams leads the team with three assists.
Scouting the Runnin' Bulldogs
Gardner-Webb enters Saturday's matchup with a 6-7-1 overall record and 3-2 mark in league play. Most recently, the Runnin' Bulldogs took a break from Big South competition, falling, 4-3, at UAB last Saturday.
Oskar Wang leads the way with six goals on the season, while Jorge Salgado and Pedro Benito have four goals apiece. Abel Gebrekiros (3) and Hendrik Kortgodde (2) have also scored multiple goals this season.
Daniel Husa has started all 14 matches in goal for the Runnin' Bulldogs, recording 54 saves and allowing 28 goals for a .659 save percentage.
