10.18.2019 | Men's Soccer
ASHEVILLE – UNC Asheville soccer hosts its final home doubleheader of the season, with the men's team set to square off against Big South Conference leader Campbell, Saturday, October 19.
Due to rain in Saturday's forecast, kickoff time has been moved up to 1 p.m. after originally being scheduled for 6 p.m. Saturday will serve as the final home doubleheader of the season, so the men's match will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women's 10:30 a.m. match.
The matchup against Campbell will serve as the team's Vs. Cancer match, as the Bulldogs have teamed up with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to raise awareness and funds for local children with cancer. The Bulldogs have selected the pediatric oncology unit at Mission Children's Hospital to receive a portion of the funds they raise. For more information on the Vs. Cancer campaign, click HERE.
Started by pediatric brain cancer survivor and former collegiate baseball player Chase Jones, Vs. Cancer empowers any sports team, any athlete, and any community to help kids with cancer. As a signature fundraising campaign of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, Vs. Cancer proceeds help fund child life programs in local hospitals and groundbreaking research to cure pediatric brain tumors, the deadliest childhood cancer.
The doubleheader will also serve as the "Pups on the Pitch" promotion, where fans are encouraged to bring their dogs to Greenwood Field. Fans who do bring their canine friends will receive a discounted $4 ticket that gains entry into both matches. For more information on "Pups on the Pitch" please click HERE.
Due to the threat of inclement weather, the match will NOT be live streamed, but fans can follow the action via live stats HERE.

House of Payne
Freshman goalkeeper Jarrett Payne earned recognition as the Big South Freshman of the Week, September 9, for his performances against VMI, and namely, against Georgia State. Against the Panthers, Payne recorded 17 saves, including a diving stop on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute.
The rookie followed up that performance with 14 saves against Furman the following week. Payne recorded the first shutout of his young career at USC Upstate, September 28, and followed that up with his second clean sheet at Winthrop, October 5. He has 82 total saves on the season, which is the second-most nationally.
Offensive Attack
Nine different Bulldogs have scored at least one goal so far this season, with junior Tyson Hichman leading the way with four. His goal in the home opener against VMI proved to be the game-winner.
Sophomore Nate Evans has come on strong as of late, scoring the game winner in each of the past two Saturday road conference matches. His goal against USC Upstate proved to be the only one of the match, and he scored the first of three for the Bulldogs against Winthrop, October 5.
As a team, the Bulldogs scored three goals at home against High Point, October 2, in a 4-3 defeat before taking down Winthrop, 3-0. It was the first time since 2010 the Bulldogs had scored three goals in consecutive games.
In addition to Hichman and Evans, Izaiah Vignali, Kyle Adams, Colin Daughtry, Frank Morales, Andrew Rossetti, Noe Varner and Dino Dziergas have each recorded a goal for the Bulldogs, while Adams and Dziergas lead the way with two assists apiece.
Scouting the Camels
Campbell sports an 11-2-1 overall record and an unblemished 5-0 record in league play, coming into Saturday's matchup atop the Big South standings. They are the only team in the conference with a scoring average above two (2.214), and they also are the only team holding their opponents less than a goal per game (.71).
Offensively, they are led by Thibaut Jacquel, who is tops in the nation in goals scored with 15, and along with three assists, he leads the country in points scored with 33. The Camels boast five multi-goal scorers, as Jacquel is joined by Alex Egeonu (4), Adrian Morales (3), Eren Elbustu (3) and Matt Lock (2).
Samuel Lechuga has started all 14 matches for the Camels, allowing just 10 goals and recording 27 saves for a .730 save percentage.
