UNC Asheville Hits Road to Battle Georgia State on Tuesday

ATLANTA – UNC Asheville men's soccer and Georgia State have become regular opponents on the pitch over the last few years and the latest edition is set for Tuesday, Sept. 4.
Kickoff between the two teams is slated for 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the GSU Soccer Complex. The match will be streamed live on Georgia State's PantherVision.

The Bulldogs travel to Georgia State owning a 1-2 overall record on the season. UNC Asheville picked up its first win of the season last week in a 1-0 victory at Wofford on Monday, Aug. 27. UNC Asheville redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Dakotah Bainter picked up his first career shutout in the game, while Lane Carroll secured his first career goal and game-winning tally in the victory over the Terriers.

The Panthers welcome the Bulldogs owning a 1-2 overall record on the 2018 season. Georgia State bested Lipscomb, 2-1, in its last outing on Saturday, Sept. 1. The Panthers were picked to finish second in the Sun Belt in the preseason coaches' poll.

"Georgia State is a great annual fixture for us," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "Brett Surrency has done a great job with their program. They've established themselves as a premier power in their conference. They were really good against (No. 9) Louisville and they just won a really good game against Lipscomb, who played in the NCAA Tournament last season. We've got our hands full.
"It should be a good game and a test for us before we head out to Wilmington this upcoming weekend. I'm excited for our guys to get back on the pitch and be able to play opponents like Georgia State that prepare us for the rest of the season. Georgia State is really good on the ball, is expansive and has a great team belief about them. It should be another awesome opportunity for us to get better against a really good team."
