About the Bulldogs

Five Bulldogs have scored on the year in total.

"Full Big South play is finally here, so it's an exciting time of year," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "Longwood is a team that is really committed to playing attractive soccer and that can cause some problems because they will get a ton of possession just on the way they approach the game. You've got to have a little bit of nerves of steel to be okay with the other team having the ball for a lot of the stretch and being disciplined and smart enough not to chase the game just to chase because you're uncomfortable with the other team having the ball. I think that will be a good test of our tactical understanding of what we want to do and how do we apply that to an opponent that really wants to turn a 90-minute game to a 70-minute game because they want to keep the ball so much.
"(Longwood head coach) Jon Atkinson has a brand-new group. They brought in a lot of new players, so in terms of having some corporate knowledge of what their group looks like it's a little bit new because this is a pretty new group to the Big South. This will be our fifth time playing them and all of them have been attractive and fun soccer games to watch. I don't see why Saturday will be any different. Obviously playing on Alumni/Hall of Fame weekend is great. To be able to have a doubleheader with the women's team and all of the things that come with this weekend it brings a lot of familiar faces back to campus. It's a pretty special thing for our student-athletes to be able to showcase all the things that they've been doing as they get into the Big South schedule in front of a friendly and raucous crowd."
