ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams swept the titles at the 2018 Asheville Cross Country Invitational at Asheville Christian Academy on Friday, Sept. 21.
The men repeated as champs at their annual home event with a team time average of 27:13.78 in the 8K race, while the women collected the win with a team time average of 19:29.44 in the 5K race.
"We are excited to get the wins today," UNC Asheville cross country head coach Jesse Norman said. "It was really hot, especially for the women's race, but I felt like we did a good job competing. This is a good gauge for us as we move towards the main competition part of our season of the ECU Pirate Invitational and the Big South Championships."
Named the Big South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week after her performance at the Covered Bridge Open, UNC Asheville's Clara Wincheski continued her strong start to her freshman season by winning the Asheville Cross Country Invitational with a time of 18:21.11.
Two Bulldogs finished in the top-10 in total with Kelley Coleman ending her efforts in third with a time of 19:18.58. Five Bulldogs finished in the top-10 in total with Madeline Nichols (19:44.88) sixth, India Appleton (19:59.92) eighth and Megan Brewer (20:02.70) 10th.
