CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville senior defensive specialist Madisen Zyburt has been chosen as the Big South Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

The league office made the official announcement on Monday, Sept. 17. The honor marks the first time Zyburt has garnered weekly plaudits from the league office. She is the second Bulldog to be honored by the league this year with senior outside hitter Cara Guthrie earning conference Player of the Week honors on Aug. 27.

Zyburt led the league in digs per set last week at 8.25. She finished with a career-best 33 digs in UNC Asheville's four-set win over Western Carolina on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at the Justice Center.

Zyburt's 33 digs were the fourth-most in a single four-set match in UNC Asheville volleyball history in the rally scoring era (2008-present). She now has six 20 or more dig performances in four-set matches in her Bulldog career. Zyburt has two 30 or more dig performances in her Bulldog career now.

Her career day in the win over Western Carolina allowed her to surpass 1,000 digs. She now has 1,009 in her career.

Zyburt is presently third in the Big South Conference overall with 4.62 digs per set.

UNC Asheville volleyball will next open Big South Conference play by hosting Radford at 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
