"Obviously we are excited that we are going to be able to get this game in with Hurricane Florence having a significant impact in North Carolina," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "The safety of the student-athletes was paramount and I thought that Coach (Matt) Spear and the Davidson administration made a great decision to move the game to Tuesday. All of that being said, we are really thankful to be able to get this game in against a very good Davidson team. They've got a good pedigree, a long history of success and they also play in a really good conference. For us to be able to test ourselves against a team that plays the competition they do is a great occurrence for us.
"We are looking forward to traveling to the Charlotte area. We've got some guys from that area and for them to be able to play a little closer to home is awesome. This is the final dress rehearsal for us as we next welcome Longwood Saturday to go full-tilt into league play. The Davidson match is the time for us to put the fine print on what we are trying to do. It's going to be a good game with the opportunity to play a good team on the road in front of a good environment. That's what college soccer is all about."
