UNC Asheville Welcomes Mountain Rival Western Carolina to Justice Center on Tuesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville will play its final non-conference regular season match of the year at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11 when the Bulldogs play host to mountain rival Western Carolina at the Justice Center.
The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.

Series
Since making the move to NCAA Division I, UNC Asheville owns a 23-17 advantage over the Catamounts. Last time the two met at the Justice Center on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, UNC Asheville picked up an emphatic 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19) win over the Catamounts.

The UNC Asheville volleyball team currently leads the Big South in hitting percentage (.226) as a team. The Bulldogs are also leading the league in attendance with an average of 562 fans per match.
UNC Asheville in the Big South Statistics
Cara Guthrie presently leads the Big South in kills (3.43) and points (4.08) per set. She is also fourth in the league in aces (0.47) per set. Kailey Hackett is currently ninth in the league in assists per set (5.27). Cecilia Stack (1.00 – fourth) and Julia Loveday (0.90 – seventh) are both in the top-10 in the conference in blocks per set. Madisen Zyburt is presently fifth in the league in digs per set (4.13).
Guthrie Named All-Tournament
UNC Asheville's Cara Guthrie was selected to the Hampton Inn Charleston/West Ashley College of Charleston Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Guthrie closed out UNC Asheville's three matches in the Hampton Inn Charleston/West Ashley College of Charleston Invitational averaging 3.50 digs and 3.10 kills per set.
In total, Guthrie finished with 35 digs and 31 kills. She also had three aces and three blocks in the tournament. Guthrie had two double-doubles on the weekend.
The honor is the third of the regular season for Guthrie, who was also chosen to the UNC Asheville Invitational All-Tournament Team and the Chattanooga Classic All-Tournament team.
Guthrie Surpasses 1,000 Kills
Guthrie became the latest member of the prestigious UNC Asheville 1,000-kill club at the Hampton Inn Charleston/West Ashley College of Charleston Invitational. She now has 1,013 in her career.
Zyburt Nearing 1,000 Digs
Madisen Zyburt had 20 digs in the win over The Citadel on Sept. 8. She now has five 20 or more dig performances in four-set matches in her Bulldog career. Zyburt is also closing in on 1,000 digs with 976 currently.
About Western Carolina
The Catamounts make their way to UNC Asheville owning a 6-4 overall record on the 2018 season. Western Carolina was picked eighth in the SoCon preseason poll.
