ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The 2018 UNC Asheville volleyball team is back on campus and working hard in preparation for the upcoming season.
The Bulldogs officially reported back to campus on Wednesday, Aug. 8, and after meetings and picture day for most of the first day, the Bulldogs hit the court on Thursday, Aug. 9 for the first time.
UNC Asheville volleyball head coach Frederico Santos is thrilled to have his team back on campus.
"For me this is super-exciting because we have a talented group of players," Santos said. "There are a lot of new players coming into the program who want to play and who are excited about the prospect of this year. So far it's been nice to see the effort level. The motivation level for everybody is super-high, and I think the challenge for us now with such a big group is to put it together on the floor."
UNC Asheville was picked in the 2018 preseason Big South poll exactly where they finished the 2017 campaign in fourth.
UNC Asheville enters the 2018 campaign coming off its most wins in conference play since the 2010 season with nine.
UNC Asheville was really strong at the Justice Center during the 2017 season. The Bulldogs were 7-2 on the season at the Justice Center with wins over Montreat, Gardner-Webb, Campbell, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, Presbyterian College and Liberty.
UNC Asheville has now won at least seven home matches in a single season for the last three seasons. In fact, the Bulldogs are 26-8 over the last three seasons at home.
