08.08.2018 | Men's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's soccer returned to campus on Tuesday, Aug. 7, and the Bulldogs had their first practice of the 2018 season on Wednesday, Aug. 8.

The Bulldogs spent most of Tuesday getting moved in and attending meetings and on day two of preseason camp on Wednesday the Bulldogs had picture day along with their first training session.

UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell was excited about the efforts of his squad after the first day of training.

"The first day the energy was fantastic," Mennell said. "The young guys have integrated pretty well and the returners look sharp. It's the first day, so you don't read too much into it, but as I've said numerous times, I'm very excited about this group and after talking with staff after the first session that sentiment has not changed. It's going to be a fun year. We've got a lot of work to do, but there are a lot of good pieces in place."

UNC Asheville enters the 2018 campaign having received one first-place vote in the 2018 Big South preseason tally.

The Bulldogs only have a few days before traveling to Highland Heights, Ky. for their first exhibition of the 2018 campaign at Northern Kentucky.

The match at Northern Kentucky is slated for an 11 a.m. start on Saturday, Aug. 11.
