Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 27.
BULLDOG BITES
Strong First Showing
UNC Asheville did not pick up the win in its first match of the 2018 regular season, but the Bulldogs showed what they were capable of this season against a Wright State program that has posted double-digit wins in each of the last four seasons.
First of Regular Season
UNC Asheville freshman Izaiah Vignali picked up his first career regular season goal in the narrow 3-2 loss at Wright State on Friday, Aug. 24. Including UNC Asheville's final exhibition match against Georgia Southern, Vignali has now scored in the last two outings for the Bulldogs. Vignali also had an assist in the match at Wright State.
Double it Up
Colin Daughtry scored his second career goal in UNC Asheville's match at Wright State.
Let's Get it Started
UNC Asheville started the game at Wright State by scoring one of the fastest goals in league and Bulldog history by finding the back of the net just 40 seconds into the match.
It was Colin Daughtry who scored the goal for UNC Asheville just 40 seconds in off an assist by Izaiah Vignali.
About Wofford
The Terriers opened their 2018 regular season with a 2-0 home loss to High Point. Wofford was picked fifth in the SoCon preseason poll with forward Lucas Altman garnering preseason all-league plaudits.
Last Meeting Against Wofford
The Bulldogs earned a 2-0 victory over Wofford last season at Greenwood Field on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017.
The Bulldogs controlled the run of play for pretty much the entire match and probably could have added even more goals to their total as they had numerous quality chances in the first and second half.
UNC Asheville scored the first goal in its win over Wofford in the 15th-minute when Ben Chapal assisted Luiz Felipe Dantas.
Chapal would get one of his own minutes later when in the 27th-minute fellow Asheville native Jackson Allen beautifully sent a through ball toward Chapal, who would do the rest and slot the ball into the back of the net for what would be the final goal of the night.
On the same day that he was named to the prestigious "Order of the Pisgah" at UNC Asheville, goalkeeper Tyler Moore picked up the clean sheet between the pipes for the Bulldogs. Moore made four saves in the Bulldog win last year over Wofford.
Series
UNC Asheville owns a 15-5-1 all-time series advantage over Wofford. Last year's meeting was the first between the two programs since 2010.
Quotable
"Wofford is going to present a really challenging game for us," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "They're very well-coached and it's a great environment and a great stadium at Wofford. They'll get a great crowd and the weather will be a little bit warmer. It's going to be very challenging. They play a great style of soccer.
"It's a great opportunity for us to continue our process. I thought that we played very well against Wright State, but at the same time, there some moments of the game where we should have been a little bit sharper and we're looking to clean those up. Overall, I thought our ability to be resilient and our ability to be goal-dangerous was quite good and we'll look to continue that against Wofford and see where it goes."
