ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team will kick off its 2018 season this weekend by playing host to the UNC Asheville Invitational at the Justice Center.
The host Bulldogs will welcome Appalachian State, Coppin State and The Citadel to the Justice Center as part of the 2018 UNC Asheville Invitational.
UNC Asheville will play three matches in its home event. The Bulldogs will first battle Coppin State of the MEAC at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, before taking on The Citadel of the Southern Conference at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25. UNC Asheville will close out its matches in the Asheville Invitational by facing Appalachian State of the Sun Belt at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25.
To attend the entire UNC Asheville Volleyball Invitational, there is a special low-price pass of just $15 for adults and $10 for children. The tournament pass allows you to attend all matches in the tournament.
Tickets per day are $10 for adults and $6 for children. The per day price allows you to attend all matches on that day.

Bulldogs Picked Fourth in Preseason Poll
UNC Asheville was picked in the 2018 preseason Big South poll exactly where they finished the 2017 campaign in fourth.

UNC Asheville enters the 2018 campaign coming off its most wins in conference play since the 2010 season with nine. UNC Asheville was really strong at the Justice Center during the 2017 season. The Bulldogs were 7-2 on the season at the Justice Center with wins over Montreat, Gardner-Webb, Campbell, Winthrop, Charleston Southern, Presbyterian College and Liberty. UNC Asheville has now won at least seven home matches in a single season for the last three seasons. In fact, the Bulldogs are 26-8 over the last three seasons at home.
Guthrie Named Preseason All-Big South
UNC Asheville senior Cara Guthrie was chosen preseason All-Big South. Guthrie closed out the 2017 campaign as a first-team All-Big South selection. She finished the regular season in 2017 third in the Big South Conference in both kills (3.82) and points (4.34) per set. She was also eighth in the league in service aces per set at 0.33. Guthrie was twice named Big South Player of the Week, garnering weekly honors from the league on Oct. 9 and Oct. 30. Overall last season, Guthrie had a team-best 391 kills and team second-best 303 digs on the season. She enters her senior season with 910 kills and 794 digs in her career.

About Coppin State
Coppin State finished last season with a 4-26 overall record. All four of the wins for the Eagles came in conference play. Coppin State returns four letterwinners overall from last year's team.
About Appalachian State
A member of the Sun Belt Conference, Appalachian State closed out last year with an overall record of 12-20. The Mountaineers picked up half of their 12 wins overall in league play. Appalachian State returns eight from last year's team, while also welcoming in eight newcomers.
About The Citadel
Under first-year head coach Dave Zelenock, The Citadel opens the 2018 season with five returning starters. The Bulldogs finished the 2017 season with an 8-26 record overall.
