Bulldogs Post Strong Showing in Final Dress Rehearsal Before Regular Season

08.18.2018 | Men's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville closed out its dress rehearsals before the 2018 regular season with a solid showing in a 2-1 exhibition loss to Georgia Southern before a huge crowd at Greenwood Field.

In a match where to be fair UNC Asheville deserved at least a tie due to its particularly strong play in the first half it was the Bulldogs who found the back of the net first.

Izaiah Vignali scored the Asheville goal in the 20th minute when he rebounded his own shot and expertly lifted the ball into the back of the net.

Vignali looked like he had struck again a few minutes later when he hit an absolute cracker into the back of the net. The goal did not count though as it was ruled offsides.

Georgia Southern would score in the 43rd minute off a Jack Rittmeyer goal on a Samuel Mayer assist to even things up 1-1 at the halftime break. The Eagles would collect the win off a goal in the 70th minute from Kareem Gharbi, who was assisted by Javier Carbonell.

UNC Asheville held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks in the match, but Georgia Southern out-shot the Bulldogs, 20-10.
