08.16.2018 | Cross Country
ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country enter the 2018 campaigns predicted to finish highly in the Big South Conference.
The UNC Asheville women's cross country team was picked third in the preseason poll, while men's cross country was picked fourth in the preseason tally released by the league office on Thursday, Aug. 16.
"This is about where we expected we would get picked for the preseason polls," UNC Asheville cross country head coach Jesse Norman said. "If anything, this adds a little motivation to the team to know where our conference peers ranked us. At the end of the day though, it only matters what we do at the championships. We're excited to see exactly how good we can be this year."
Both the men's and women's cross country teams at UNC Asheville received the 2017 Team All-Academic Awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The men's and women's cross country teams commence the upcoming 2018 season coming off a tremendous 2017 campaign.
UNC Asheville men's cross country with its fourth place finish last year garnered its best finish as a team at the Big South Cross Country Championship since also finishing fourth in 2003.
With its fourth place finish as a team at the Big South Cross Country Championship, UNC Asheville women's cross country has now finished in the top-6 every year since 2012. The Bulldogs finished third in 2013, and Asheville has finished fourth as a team in two of the last three years (2015 and 2017).
