BULLDOG BITES
Bullish About the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville men's soccer received one first-place vote in the 2018 Big South men's soccer preseason poll.
Quick Jump Into Competition
UNC Asheville will have had just three days of preseason practice prior to taking on the Norse.
"It's early days," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "We all just started. We'll play almost everyone that is available and try to build some chemistry, while in the meantime trying to get a run out against a good opponent to see where we are, take stock of that."
About Northern Kentucky
Northern Kentucky finished off the 2017 season with an overall record of 7-6-4. The Norse are coached by former Coastal Carolina standout and former All-Big South selection Stu Riddle.
"Northern Kentucky is a good side," Mennell said. "Stu Riddle has done a good job with them. They're going to have a completely new group than they had last year. Also too, they are a Horizon League team and we open up with (fellow Horizon League program) Wright State, so to kind of play against a team in that league, I think it's going to be good for our guys."

Up Next
UNC Asheville will play the second of its three exhibitions by visiting two-time defending Southern Conference Tournament champion Mercer (Tuesday, Aug. 14 – 5 p.m.). UNC Asheville will then open up its home games at Greenwood Field at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18, by playing host to Georgia Southern of the Sun Belt for its final exhibition match at 6 p.m.
"With Mercer, you'll probably see us kind of mold it more towards what our first regular-season 11 will look like and then with Georgia Southern in our last exhibition we will use that as a dress rehearsal," Mennell noted.
