2018 UNC Asheville Volleyball Schedule
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville eighth-year head volleyball coach Frederico Santos unveiled the 2018 volleyball schedule on Thursday, July 5, 2018.
The 2018 UNC Asheville volleyball schedule features 12 home matches at the Justice Center.
"I look forward to preseason and the beginning of league play," Santos noted of the 2018 schedule. "The challenge as always is to have continuity within the work of developing our players, team and program. We have a lot of great incoming players who will contribute to that process and we hope to continue our challenge for the Big South Conference Championships."
The Bulldogs officially open their 2018 regular season schedule on Friday, Aug. 24 and Saturday, Aug. 25 by playing host to the Asheville Invitational at the Justice Center. The tournament will feature six matches at the Justice Center.
UNC Asheville will play three matches in its home event. The Bulldogs will first battle Coppin State of the MEAC at 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24, before taking on The Citadel of the Southern Conference at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25. UNC Asheville will close out its matches in the Asheville Invitational by facing Appalachian State of the Sun Belt at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25.
The Bulldogs will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. the next weekend to compete in the Chattanooga Classic. UNC Asheville will first face off against host Chattanooga of the Southern Conference at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31. The Bulldogs will then face new Atlantic Sun Conference member North Alabama at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1. UNC Asheville will then conclude its time at the tournament by taking on Tennessee State of the Ohio Valley Conference at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1.
UNC Asheville will travel to Charleston, S.C. for its final regular season tournament of the 2018 season. The Bulldogs will play three matches in the Hampton Inn Charleston/West Ashley College of Charleston Invitational. UNC Asheville will open the tournament by facing host College of Charleston of the Colonial Athletic Association at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7. The next day, UNC Asheville will open its Saturday with a 10 a.m. match against Davidson of the Atlantic 10. The Bulldogs will close out the tournament by battling The Citadel for the second time in the 2018 season at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 8.
UNC Asheville will play its final non-conference regular season match of the year at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 11, when the Bulldogs play host to mountain rival Western Carolina. Since making the move to NCAA Division I, UNC Asheville owns a 23-17 advantage over the Catamounts. Last time the two met at the Justice Center on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, UNC Asheville picked up an emphatic 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-19) win over the Catamounts.
The Bulldogs will open their 2018 Big South Conference schedule at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18, when they travel to Charleston, S.C. to face Charleston Southern. The Bulldogs swept the season series with the Buccaneers last season.
UNC Asheville will host its first league match of the season on Friday, Sept. 21, when the Highlanders of Radford visit the Justice Center. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
The Bulldogs will then hit the road for two consecutive matches with UNC Asheville first facing Campbell at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, in Buies Creek, N.C. before battling Hampton for the first time as a league member at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, in Hampton, Va.
The next weekend UNC Asheville will play host to two matches at the Justice Center with Gardner-Webb first facing the Bulldogs at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5. One day later, UNC Asheville will take on Winthrop at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6. The Bulldogs swept the season series with Winthrop last season.
On Tuesday, Oct. 9, UNC Asheville will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to face USC Upstate for the first time as conference foes. UNC Asheville will conclude the week by traveling to High Point, N.C. to face High Point at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.
The next weekend, UNC Asheville welcome in Charleston Southern (Friday, Oct. 19 – 6 p.m.) and Presbyterian College (Saturday, Oct. 20 – 2 p.m.). The Bulldogs swept the season series from the Blue Hose last season.
The next weekend will be UNC Asheville's final road weekend of the year with the Bulldogs first facing off against Winthrop at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, in Rock Hill, S.C. UNC Asheville will then return to the state of North Carolina for the final regular season installment of the "Battle of the Bulldogs" against Gardner-Webb at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Boiling Springs, N.C.
