Norman Unveils 2018 UNC Asheville Cross Country Schedule
07.18.2018 | Cross Country
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville cross country head coach Jesse Norman released the 2018 Bulldog schedule on Wednesday, July 18, 2018.
"We are excited about our upcoming cross country schedule," Norman said. "I feel that this schedule will give our young team the correct amount of exposure to Division I competition. This schedule will set us up for some good racing opportunities, but, more importantly, some good time to recover when coming off a competition which will allow us to get some good training in for the next competition. This competition schedule will set us up for a great performance at the Big South Conference Championships."
For the second straight season, UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country will open its season by competing in the Covered Bridge Open hosted by Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. This year's Covered Bridge Open will be held on Friday, Aug. 31.
The Bulldogs will continue their 2018 campaign on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, by hosting the Asheville Invitational. The UNC Asheville men's cross country team won the 2017 Asheville Cross Country Invitational at Asheville Christian Academy on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017.
The next weekend, UNC Asheville will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to participate in the Upstate Invite hosted by USC Upstate on Saturday, Sept. 29.
UNC Asheville will open the month of October by participating in the Pirate Invitational in Greenville, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 12.
The Pirate Invitational will be UNC Asheville's final tuneup before the Bulldogs travel to High Point, N.C. on Friday, Oct. 26, for the 2018 Big South Cross Country Championships. The 2018 NCAA Regional Championships are scheduled for Friday, Nov. 9, in Rock Hill, S.C.
Both the men's and women's cross country teams at UNC Asheville received the 2017 Team All-Academic Awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The men's and women's cross country teams commence the upcoming 2018 season coming off a tremendous 2017 campaign.
UNC Asheville men's cross country team with its fourth place finish garnered its best finish as a team at the Big South Cross Country Championship since also finishing fourth in 2003.
With its fourth place finish as a team at the Big South Cross Country Championship, UNC Asheville women's cross country has now finished in the top-6 every year since 2012. The Bulldogs finished third in 2013, and Asheville has finished fourth as a team in two of the last three years (2015 and 2017).
