UNC Asheville Soccer Heavily Featured on Asheville City SC Roster

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's soccer is always featured on some of the top developmental teams in the country in the summer, but this summer Bulldogs fans will have a chance to catch many of their favorite players locally at Memorial Stadium.
In fact, six Bulldogs who will suit up for the 2018 UNC Asheville men's soccer season are currently on the Asheville City Soccer Club roster in Brandon Millington, Brendan O'Dowd, Dante Bova, Izaiah Vignali, Ben Katt and Tanner Gilliam.
In addition, two UNC Asheville men's soccer alumni in Zack Joens and Paul Egle will also be on the 2018 roster.
The 2018 Asheville City SC squad is even helmed by a Bulldog in former student-athlete and assistant coach Mick Giordano, who is assisted by former UNC Asheville women's soccer assistant coach Joey Sasvari.
All of this is just on the men's side of things as well with current UNC Asheville women's soccer student-athlete Bryson Lee along with alums Caroline Houser, Emma Houser and Ferriss Roberts set to play for the inaugural Asheville City SC women's team this season.
UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell is excited to see so many Bulldogs having the opportunity to showcase their talents locally this summer.
"Asheville City SC has been fantastic," Mennell said. "What they did last year with their men's team and now adding the women's team, they've really added a ton of quality to the soccer landscape here in Asheville. To be able to have players from my team participating, it's awesome. It'll be great for the guys in terms of their development, but also it's just a really unique opportunity for these individuals to represent UNC Asheville in front of the great crowd support for the men's games and for what I am sure will be great support for the women's games. To have them be a part of that is really quite special."
The 2018 Asheville City SC men's schedule gets underway at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at Memorial Stadium with the Myrtle Beach Mutiny visiting for a friendly.
Just a few days later, the Asheville City men will open their 2018 National Premier Soccer League regular-season schedule by playing host to the Georgia Revolution FC at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8. To see the full men's schedule, please visit HERE.
