Coleman, Gillespie Record Career Bests on Second Day of Florida Relays

DAY TWO RESULTS

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Juniors Kelley Coleman and Blanton Gillespie earned career-best times on Saturday, as the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition on the second day at the Florida Relays.

Meet Highlights

Coleman had one of the biggest highlights for the Bulldogs on Friday, as the junior recorded the second-fastest time in program history in the 3000m steeplechase. Coleman posted an 11:10.71, which was just over 12 seconds faster than her previous career-best time. She placed 21st out of 33 runners in the event.

Also earning a new career-best time on Friday was Blanton Gillespie. The junior distance runner clocked a 3:58.58 in the men's 1500m. That time was 0.15 seconds faster than his previous best time. He finished 41st in the highly-competitive field.

Kayli Nichols posted a strong finish in the women's 400m hurdles. The senior from Raleigh, N.C. posted a 1:02.53, which was good enough for 27th place in the 51-person field.

Nichols also raced in the women's 100mH, and she posted a 14.62. She finished 55th in the event. In the same event, Heather Grober clocked a 1:05.33, which placed her 39th.

Grant Lindsey rounded out the individual finishes for UNC Asheville, and the freshman posted a 57.28 in men's 400mH.

To finish the second day of competition at the Florida Relays, Asheville sent out a men's and women's foursome to compete in the 4 x 400m relays. The men's relay team placed 34th with a 3:25.17, and the women's foursome clocked a 3:56.36, which was good enough for 39th.

What's Next?

The Bulldogs conclude the three-day Florida Relays on Saturday, March 31.

The first college event on Saturday will be the men's discus, which begins at 11 a.m. The first track event is the women's 4 x 100m shuttle hurdle, and the final event of the three-day meet is the men's and women's 4 x 400m relays, which begins at 7:20 p.m.
