UNC Asheville Opens Competition at the Weems Baskin Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams posted several strong performances on the first day of the Weems Baskin Invitational on Friday at the Sheila & Marris Cregger Track.

Highlights

Morgan Costelloe had a strong showing in the women's 3000m steeplechase. The freshman posted a 12:48.17, which placed her fifth in the event.

In the women's 4 x 800m relay, Kamyrn DeCarmo, Kelley Coleman, Megan Brewer and Maddie Lowe led the Bulldogs to a top-4 finish, as they clocked a 9:45.75. That time is now the fourth-fastest mark in program history.

Kimani Anderson had a strong finish in the men's 400m, as the junior posted a 49.65. The time was only 0.15 seconds from matching a career-best mark. In the same event, Tyree McFalling finished 26th with a 50.15.

On the men's side of the 4 x 800m, Matthew Barrera, Blanton Gillespie, Sage Turner and David Hager placed fourth. The foursome posted a 8:04.79.

What's Next?

The Bulldogs conclude competition on Saturday at the Weems Baskin Invitational. 

The first event on the final day begins at 9 a.m. with the men's discus, women's shot put, women's triple jump, men's triple jump and women's high jump. The first track event of the day is the women's 1500m at 10 a.m.
