UNC Asheville Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Earn USTFCCCA Team All-Academic Awards

NEW ORLEANS – Both the men's and women's cross country teams at UNC Asheville received the 2017 Team All-Academic Awards from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The USTFCCCA unveiled the Cross Country Team All-Academic award winners on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018.
Overall, according to the USTFCCCA there were 423 teams that garnered All-Academic honors with 228 women's teams earning All-Academic laurels and 195 men's teams receiving the prestigious honor.
The men's team at UNC Asheville currently has a grade-point average of 3.12, while the women's team owns a GPA of 3.15.
"We are pretty excited about this honor," UNC Asheville cross country head coach Jesse Norman said. "This shows that we take the term student-athlete seriously here at UNC Asheville. Kudos to our student-athletes for doing a great job in the classroom this fall."
As noted by Norman, the Bulldogs focused strongly on the classroom, while also shining in their pursuits during each and every meet.
In fact, the UNC Asheville men's cross country team with its fourth place finish garnered its best finish as a team at the Big South Cross Country Championship since also finishing fourth in 2003.
With its fourth place finish as a team at the Big South Cross Country Championship, UNC Asheville women's cross country has now finished in the top-6 every year since 2012. The Bulldogs finished third in 2013, and Asheville has finished fourth as a team in two of the last three years (2015 and 2017).
