Gillespie Named to the Big South Men’s Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team

LYNCHBURG, Va. – UNC Asheville distance runner Blanton Gillespie was selected to the Big South Men's Indoor Track and Field All-Academic Team following the conclusion of the Indoor Conference Championships on Saturday.
The chemistry major owns a 3.995 grade-point average (GPA). Gillespie was recently awarded the Wiley Outstanding Undergraduate Poster Award sponsored by The Journal of Computational Chemistry and the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry. The junior also received Recognition from SERMACS for Outstanding Research for an excellent undergraduate poster presentation, and he is also a member of the UNC Asheville cross country team.
To be eligible for the All-Academic Team, the student-athlete must hold at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA and must be of at least sophomore status at the institution. The student-athlete must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's competition as well.
