CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team received the 2018 Big South Men's Soccer Sportsmanship Award.
The league office made the official announcement on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2018. The UNC Asheville women's soccer team earned the 2018 Big South Women's Soccer Sportsmanship Award.
"To win the Team Sportsmanship Award for the Big South is a great testament to the program, the university, and most importantly, it is a great statement of the excellent student-athletes we are fortunate enough to call our men's soccer players," UNC Asheville men's soccer head coach Mathes Mennell said. "To have our team recognized by our Big South peers as doing things the right way is certainly something in which all of us should be proud. We had great leadership this past year with our captains, Joe LaCasto and Brandon Millington, and I think that this honor is a direct reflection of how they led this team on and off the field."
UNC Asheville men's soccer also recently received the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award. As of this week, UNC Asheville men's soccer now has eight straight semesters of a team grade-point average above a 3.0.
