UNC Asheville Women’s Cross Country Named Big South Sportsmanship Award Winner

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women's cross country team was named the winner of the 2018 Big South Women's Cross Country Sportsmanship Award.

The league office made the official announcement on Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2018. USC Upstate was named the Big South Men's Cross Country Sportsmanship Award winner.

"We are really excited about this award for the women's team," UNC Asheville cross country head coach Jesse Norman said. "I think this shows the type of student-athletes we recruit here at UNC Asheville."

The UNC Asheville women's cross country team finished fourth in the 2018 Big South Cross Country Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting and UCS at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex on Friday, Oct. 26, with a team average time of 19:45 in the 5K race.

Two Bulldogs finished in the top-15 with three-time Big South Runner of the Week Clara Wincheski with a time of 18:36.2 earning all-conference honors with a fifth place finish.

UNC Asheville's Kelley Coleman ended her efforts in 14th with a time of 19:21.7.

With its fourth place finish as a team this year once again at the Big South Championships, UNC Asheville women's cross country has now finished in the top-6 every year since 2012. The Bulldogs finished third in 2013, and Asheville has finished fourth as a team in three of the last four years (2015, 2017 and 2018).
