Men’s Soccer Hosts Senior Night Treat for Bulldog Fans on Halloween

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville men's soccer will next close out its regular season with a Halloween "Battle of the Bulldogs" showdown with Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 31, at Greenwood Field.
The match will serve as Senior Night for the Bulldogs. The "Battle of the Bulldogs" will also be UNC Asheville's "Kick or Treat" match with free candy for everyone in costume. It will also be "Fan Appreciation Night" at Greenwood Field.

Taking Over the Team Lead
Izaiah Viganli's goal in the match at Campbell allowed him to take the team lead in points with eight on the season. Vignali has three goals and two assists on the 2018 season. His three goals tie him with Taylor Durall and Lane Carroll for the team lead in the category.
Nine Different Bulldogs Have Scored
Nine different Bulldogs have now scored this season with Izaiah Vignali, Lane Carroll, Taylor Durall scoring three each and Luiz Felipe Dantas, Colin Daughtry, Brendan O'Dowd, Nate Evans, Joe LaCasto and Austin Howard each scoring once for UNC Asheville this season.

"The seniors are my first recruits, so it's certainly bittersweet. It's certainly not awesome to see them leave because they have obviously meant a lot on and off the field to UNC Asheville, but at the same time we talk a lot about them being Champions in Athletics and Leaders in Life a great deal like our Athletics Director Janet R. Cone always says and I think this is the biggest victory they can get because they are within the semester of graduating and Tyler Moore even actually graduates in December. It's pretty awesome.

Mennell On Gardner-Webb
"Gardner-Webb is a good team and they need a result to get into the Big South Tournament. Obviously Coach Setzer's been there for a long time and certainly is one of the godfathers if you will of Big South men's soccer. As much respect though as I have for all of the things he has done for the game, we're not really interested in helping them get to the Big South Tournament.
"We're going to do everything we can to make that road difficult for them and if they are going to get in, we're hopeful that they'll get help from someone else and not because they picked up points at UNC Asheville. That being said, Gardner-Webb plays a wide-open and expansive attacking brand of soccer. They're fun to watch. They're also hard to play against because they are very good at passing the ball and very good at asking questions of the other team. It should be a wide-open and fan-friendly affair on Halloween night. It should be a great way to close out the year."
