ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone and Vice Chancellor for University Advancement Carla S. Willis recently announced the addition of David Jandrew as Assistant Athletics Director for Athletics Advancement/Major Gifts.
Jandrew joins UNC Asheville after most recently serving as the Director of Development for The First Tee of Greater Charlotte.
"We are extremely excited to have David join our advancement and athletic leadership team," Cone said. "David has extensive advancement experience and he has worked at USC Upstate, Charlotte, Lenoir-Rhyne and most recently at The First Tee of Greater Charlotte. His knowledge and experience will help us greatly as we continue to focus on raising additional scholarship funds and other athletic funding to enhance the student-athlete experience."
Jandrew is thrilled for the opportunity at UNC Asheville.
"I am excited about returning to a Big South university and a UNC system school, both of which I am familiar with," Jandrew said. "I appreciate the opportunity afforded me by Janet R. Cone, and I know I am joining the athletics department at a special time where this role can be a big part of the continued and future success of UNC Asheville athletics."
Jandrew spent two years at Charlotte in the Charlotte 49ers Athletics Association as the Assistant Director of the Athletic Annual Fund. During his time there he was responsible for the identification and cultivation of donors to the Charlotte 49ers Scholarship Fund and assisted in the planning and execution of special events for the Athletic Foundation, including the annual auction, golf tournament and other hospitality events.
He left Charlotte to start the new athletic booster organization, the U Club, at USC Upstate. In his role as the Associate Athletic Director for Development, Jandrew worked extensively with the individual athletic programs on creating new fundraising initiatives to increase financial support and helped increase the number of Endowed Scholarships and funding for current scholarships, while also developing a comprehensive sponsorship and marketing plan to increase revenue and in-kind trade for the athletic department.
Prior to joining The First Tee, Jandrew spent three years in his hometown of Hickory, N.C. as the Operating Director of the Piedmont Educational Foundation at Lenoir-Rhyne. Jandrew was responsible for the operation and execution of all fundraising activities for Lenoir-Rhyne University athletics and the Piedmont Educational Foundation/Bears Club. He increased PEF/Bears Club membership by 63 percent in his time in Hickory and he doubled the overall revenue during his first year to set foundation benchmarks. Jandrew also increased the Foundation's cash reserves by 45 percent in his first two years and assisted in raising $1.1 million for FieldTurf for Lenoir-Rhyne's football stadium.
Jandrew was responsible for a comprehensive development program, including corporate partnerships, annual giving, planned giving and capital giving during his time with The First Tee. He increased sponsorship dollars by 65 percent at The First Tee, while assisting in raising funds for a $750,000 capital campaign for the existing The First Tee facility.
Jandrew earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Secondary Education from Charlotte in 1996 and completed his Master of Science degree in Sports Administration from St. Thomas University in 1998. He taught and coached at three North Carolina high schools (Newton-Conover, Newton, N.C.; Fred T. Foard High School, Newton, N.C.; Vance High School, Charlotte, N.C.) before moving to the collegiate ranks. He worked as Western Carolina's Director of Basketball Operations during the 2002-03 season before returning to his alma mater as Charlotte's video coordinator and athletic academic advisor for three seasons from 2004-06.
Jandrew was also the Director of Men's Basketball Operations at UNCW (2008-10) and assistant basketball coach and academic coordinator at VMI (2006-08).
