BULLDOG BITES

About the Bulldogs

Playing some of the top competition in all of college volleyball, UNC Asheville has more than held its own so far this season. UNC Asheville's 1-5 record on the year is misleading because of this as all five losses have come against highly thought of competition, particularly at the Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee Seminole Invitational where the Bulldogs faced off against all top-50 teams in No. 15 Florida State, Colorado State and TCU.

Scouting Montreat
Montreat travels to the Justice Center owning a 3-2 record on the young season after going 2-2 this past weekend at their annual Volley in the Mountains Tournament. The Cavaliers defeated Talladega College and University of Rio Grande in the tournament, while falling to NAIA No. 17 University of Jamestown and Shawnee State.

Rooks Named All-Tournament
UNC Asheville volleyball sophomore right side Ansley Rooks was named to the Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee Seminole Invitational All-Tournament Team. Rooks concluded the tournament hosted by Florida State with a total of 16 kills and 15 digs. She averaged 1.78 kills and 1.67 digs per set in UNC Asheville's three matches in the tournament. The Hickory, N.C. native had two service aces in the tournament. In UNC Asheville's matchup with No. 15 Florida State on Friday, Sept. 1, Rooks finished her efforts with six kills, three digs and three blocks, which included one solo block. Later the same day against Colorado State, Rooks hit .333 in the match en route to five kills and four digs. In UNC Asheville's final match of the tournament against TCU, Rooks once again hit .333 and finished with five kills. She also had eight digs in the match with the Horned Frogs.

Quotable
"We are very excited about our home opener. It's always nice to be in front of our home crowd after traveling, but it's also important for our team to get used to playing at home in front of a crowd. More importantly is that we continue with our preparation for conference play by getting better with every match we play." – Head Coach Frederico Santos
