RADFORD, Va. – The UNC Asheville men's soccer team will travel to Radford this weekend for its first Big South Conference road match of the season.
Kickoff between UNC Asheville (1-8-0, 0-1-0 Big South Conference) and Radford (5-2-1, 1-0-0 Big South Conference) is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Cupp Stadium.
BULLDOG BITES
The Bulldogs
UNC Asheville men's soccer travels to Radford looking for its second win overall and first Big South Conference win of the season. UNC Asheville collected its first win of the season in a dominating 2-0 win over Wofford on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at Greenwood Field. The Bulldogs controlled the run of play for pretty much the entire match against Wofford and probably could have added even more goals to their total as they had numerous quality chances in the first and second half. UNC Asheville scored the first goal in its win over Wofford in the 15th-minute when senior Ben Chapal assisted sophomore Luiz Felipe Dantas. Chapal would get one of his own minutes later when in the 27th-minute fellow Asheville native Jackson Allen beautifully sent a through ball toward Chapal, who would do the rest and slot the ball into the back of the net for what would be the final goal of the night.

Quotable
"Radford was picked to win our league. They started off league play in fine fashion with a great result at Campbell. We certainly are excited about the prospects. We know that they are a very powerful team that likes to score goals and can score goals in bunches, but we are looking forward to the challenge in going up there and seeing how exactly we stack up against the team that is picked to win the league." – Head Coach Mathes Mennell
About Radford
Radford opened up league play last weekend by picking up a 5-1 win over Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. Radford is led by Kieran Roberts, who is leading the Highlanders and the Big South with eight goals on the year.
Toughness of the Big South Conference
"It's a little bit of a tough road to start league play by playing the two top favorites in our first games of conference play, but we look on the bright side and see that we are certainly up for those challenges and we've gotten them out of the way early and that we can through the matches find out what exactly we have to work on and where we are in Big South play. The reality is the Big South Conference is always going to be played down to the wire of the regular season, but you want to kind of get to it early on and not put yourself in too big a hole to start. We didn't get the points we wanted out of the first league game against High Point, so we're going up there looking for a result out of this match. It should be a great opportunity and a great challenge for us to try and do so." – Head Coach Mathes Mennell
Up Next
The Bulldogs will next continue Big South Conference play by traveling just up the road to Boiling Springs, N.C. to take on the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
