BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – UNC Asheville volleyball looks to keep up its undefeated start to the Big South Conference season at Gardner-Webb at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017.

The "Battle of the Bulldogs" is the second in a week between the two teams with UNC Asheville (6-7, 2-0 Big South Conference) taking a 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-19) victory over Gardner-Webb (6-8, 0-2 Big South Conference) before a great crowd at the Justice Center on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

BULLDOG BITES

In the Big South Statistics
UNC Asheville's Cara Guthrie is currently third in the Big South Conference in kills (3.65) and points (4.13) per set. Through the first two conference matches of the year, Guthrie is leading the way in the league in kills (4.38) and points per set (5.06). As a team through the first two conference matches, UNC Asheville is leading the Big South in hitting percentage (.314) and service aces (2.25) per set. KK Haley (Fifth - 0.38), Sheridan Salisbury (Ninth – 0.35) and Guthrie (10th - 0.35) are all in the top-10 in the league in service aces per set.

Acing the Competition
UNC Asheville volleyball is currently 33rd in the nation in service aces per set as a team at 1.63. The Bulldogs are in second in the Big South Conference in the category behind Radford (1.76).

FIRST MEETING
Junior outside hitter Cara Guthrie finished UNC Asheville's league win over Gardner-Webb with 18 kills and 15 digs. Ava Venema had 11 kills in the match. Sophomore defensive specialist Sheridan Salisbury led the Bulldogs in digs in the match with 16. She also had five service aces. Sophomore setters Kailey Hackett (23) and Carter Kennedy (20) as always paced the Bulldog attack. Kennedy had seven digs in the match. Three from Gardner-Webb finished with double-digit kills with Kaelyn Dyson leading the way with 14 kills.

Battle of the Bulldogs Win No. 1 of 2017-18 Goes to Asheville
The Big South opener for UNC Asheville was also the first "Battle of the Bulldogs" meeting of the year in the battle for supremacy among the Big South's Bulldogs in Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville.

Record-Breaking Match
The UNC Asheville volleyball team continued its perfect start to the conference season with a record-setting performance in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 25-15, 25-18) win over Campbell before a tremendous Homecoming crowd at the Justice Center on Friday, Sept. 22.

The Bulldogs hit a school-record .393 as a team in the 25-point rally scoring era (2008-pres.) in a four-set victory in the win over Campbell. The new mark bests the previous record of .341 hit by the Bulldogs in their 3-1 win over The Citadel at the UNC Asheville Invitational on Friday, Sept. 11, 2015.

Home Sweet Home
UNC Asheville volleyball has started the 2017 season a perfect 3-0 at home with wins over Montreat, Gardner-Webb and Campbell.

The Right Way
UNC Asheville's win over Campbell allowed the Bulldogs to open league play at 2-0 for the second time in the last three years.

Streaking
The win over Campbell was UNC Asheville's third straight win. The Bulldogs have won four of their last five matches.
