ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville athletics family is special, and always the main reason why will be because of the past, present and future student-athletes.

Without these student-athletes there would not be a need for all of the great coaches, staff and administrators within the department.

All of this is why UNC Asheville Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone thought it was important to hold a parents breakfast on the Sunday of Homecoming & Family weekend.

The well-attended breakfast featured UNC Asheville Chancellor Mary K. Grant and Cone articulating just how unique these student-athletes truly are to the parents in attendance.

Obviously, the success of the student-athletes at UNC Asheville would not be possible without the support of their parents and guardians as well.

"We are very fortunate here at our university that we have really great parents and guardians who care about their student-athletes," Cone said. "It takes a village to get a young person through college this day and age and we want to be a part of that village. We want our parents and guardians to be a part of that village."

During the breakfast, Cone talked with all in attendance about all of the great things happening at UNC Asheville and how the parents can be even more involved.

In addition, members of the UNC Asheville athletics senior staff talked about all of the things happening in their area and how the parents can find out more information through social media, uncabulldogs.com and numerous other avenues.

Cone ended the morning by explaining to all of the parents and guardians how important they truly are as well in promoting the Bulldog brand.

"We want you to be bold talking about the Bulldogs," Cone said. "We need you to be loud, and the way to be louder is to bring your friends and family members to our athletic events. We need you to be proud as well. UNC Asheville is as good as any school in this country."
