Santos Appointed to NCAA Southeast Regional Advisory Committee
09.21.2017 | Women's Volleyball
INDIANAPOLIS – UNC Asheville volleyball head coach Frederico Santos has been appointed to the new Southeast Regional Advisory Committee of the NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Committee.
Santos is one of six on the 2017-18 Southeast Regional Advisory Committee, joining April Jaurequi (Memphis), Julie Darty (Jacksonville), Toby Rens (Maryland Eastern Shore), Laurie Corbelli (Texas A&M) and Michelle Young (Furman).
The role of the Southeast Regional Advisory Committee, which evaluates teams in the American, Atlantic Sun, Big South, Mid-Eastern, Southern and SEC, is critical to the administration of the NCAA, and the advisory committee helps the national committee in a variety of ways throughout the year.
"Obviously, I'm tremendously honored that the NCAA and my peers would approve of me being on this committee and representing the Big South at the NCAA level," Santos said. "I'm really excited to get to do some work with them, and, once again, it's a real big honor."
Santos is in his seventh season as head coach of the UNC Asheville volleyball program.
In his career, Santos has coached 14 All-Conference players, four All-Freshman team honorees, two All-Americans and one Conference and Region Player of the Year.
As the Bulldogs' head coach, Santos has coached 10 All-Conference players and two All-Freshmen. Cindi Miller, Anna Moore and Rachel Wells all earned first-team honors while with the program. He has taken two teams to the semifinals of the Big South Conference Tournament (2011 and 2012) and former Bulldog Rachel Wells led the nation in digs in 2013, earning her a tryout with the U.S. National Team.
Santos' 2017 UNC Asheville volleyball team opened its Big South Conference schedule this past Tuesday with a solid 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 21-25, 25-19) victory over Gardner-Webb before a great crowd at the Justice Center. The Bulldogs with the win improved to 5-7 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
UNC Asheville volleyball next welcomes Campbell to the Justice Center for its annual Homecoming match on Friday, Sept. 22.
First serve for the match scheduled to be broadcast on the Big South Network is set for 7 p.m.
