Bulldogs Thoroughly Test TCU in Final Match at Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee Seminole Invitational

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team once again tested one of the top programs in the country on the final day of the Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee Seminole Invitational at Tully Gymnasium with the Bulldogs ultimately falling 3-0 (25-12, 25-23, 25-13) to TCU.
TCU (4-1) scored the first four points of the inaugural set and held off the Bulldogs' advances for the majority of the opening game to take a 25-12 win.
The second set would be a different story altogether as UNC Asheville (1-5) dominated the early points in the game to own a 13-6 lead through the first 19 points in the set.
The Bulldogs looked as if they would pick up the win in the second set with Asheville up 23-20 after a kill by junior outside hitter Cara Guthrie. The Horned Frogs would score the next five points though to take a 25-23 win in the second set.
TCU would take a 25-13 win in the third set to seal the match victory.
Guthrie led the Bulldogs in the match with six kills and seven digs, while sophomore right side Ansley Rooks had eight digs and five kills.
Junior defensive specialist Madisen Zyburt led the Bulldogs overall in digs with 10. Sophomore setter Kailey Hackett finished the match with 11 assists to lead the Bulldogs in the category.
Ashleigh Martin led TCU in its win over the Bulldogs with 13 kills.

The UNC Asheville volleyball team has added a non-conference matchup against Montreat to its schedule. First serve between the Bulldogs and the Cavaliers is set for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The matchup will now serve as the home opener for the Bulldogs.
