BULLDOG BITES

Last Meeting

The Bulldogs picked up their first win of the 2016 regular season and their first-ever win over UNCG with a 2-1 victory over the Spartans on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, at Greenwood Field.

UNC Asheville was down 1-0 in the 65th-minute, but just a few minutes later the Bulldogs evened things up when Brendan O'Dowd scored from 25 yards out. The Bulldogs scored the game-winner in the 79th-minute when Zach Joens scored on a penalty kick.

Familiarity Between The Two Teams
"Obviously UNC Greensboro has been a good program for a lot of years, and Coach (Justin) Maullin has done a good job and they have done very well in the Southern Conference. There is a lot of familiarity. The players all know each other. That's the case of any of these North Carolina matchups. It's a good test for us." – Head Coach Mathes Mennell

Quotable
"I've liked the way we've played in spots. I don't think that anybody is happy about our record. I don't think our guys are happy, the staff is not happy and the fans aren't happy, but we've played good soccer at times. Actually more than a few times. We've struck some really nice stuff together, but we've got to find a way to be consistent about those types of good moments over the course of 90 minutes. UNCG is going to be a great game for us. It's going to be a great crowd, a great surface and a quality opponent, so it should be a lot of fun. We've got two really tough Southern Conference matchups between them and Wofford before we start Big South play. I'm looking forward to the game on Saturday. We've had a good week of training coming off the game at Furman and we know we're going to have another tough test for us on Saturday, and hopefully we'll put more a complete performance together. If we do that, I like our chances to be successful." – Head Coach Mathes Mennell
