Checking Out the Course (via Liberty)
Liberty's new cross country course is located adjacent to the Liberty Indoor Track Complex, which is beneath the LU monogram off of Candlers Mountain Road. The road leading back to the course may be found directly across the street from the Fairfield Inn & Suites. The hotel's address is 3777 Candlers Mountain Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.

Most of the course is located in the wooded area between the Liberty Indoor Track Complex and Route 460. The 5K course includes one small loop (approximately one mile) and one large loop (approximately two miles). The 8K course follows the 5K course before making a second lap around the large loop.

The same 5K and 8K courses will be used for the 2017 Big South Cross Country Championships on Oct. 28.

League Award Winners
The UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country teams were both honored with Big South Sportsmanship Awards for the 2016-17 season.

"This is really cool to be recognized among our conference peers," UNC Asheville cross country head coach Jesse Norman said. "This goes back to what Janet R. Cone and everybody has talked about in recruiting the right individuals. We are getting more of those student-athletes and they are doing some good things for us."

The Bulldogs finished off last season with the UNC Asheville men's cross country team finishing sixth at the 2016 Big South Cross Country Championship and the women finishing fifth at the championship hosted by the UNC Asheville athletics department at Asheville Christian Academy. Dominic Collichio earned All-Conference honors for the Bulldogs with a seventh-place finish at the championship with a time of 25:43.40.

Quotable
"I think this is the really nice thing about the Big South Conference is that it's one of the requirements that you need to have the preview. It gives us a good opportunity to see the course. It gives us a chance to give our runners some general ballparks of 'here is what we're trying to do.' Once we get out there, we will have a better idea of if we need to adjust things one way or another. I told the team this meet is mainly about us doing some recon on the course and trying to incorporate more of our runners. For our frontend runners, it will be a very manageable pace, but for our backend runners, they will need to step up their game a little bit and it's up to them to keep their pace. We don't want the frontend slowing down. I think doing it that way gives us as a chance as a coaching staff to see what the course looks like and get their impressions and go from there. If we need to make adjustments in training we have a few weeks to make those adjustments and fine-tune for the championship." – Head Coach Jesse Norman
