BULLDOG BITES
About the Bulldogs
UNC Asheville has been led this season thus far by junior outside hitter Cara Guthrie, who is currently tops on the team in kills (79). She is second on the team in digs (76) just behind junior defensive specialist Madisen Zyburt. After her total in the Western Carolina match, sophomore Kailey Hackett is now over 100 assists for the year at 107. Sophomore Carter Kennedy is not far behind with 97 on the year. Sophomore middle blocker Julia Loveday leads the Bulldogs in blocks on the year with nine.
All-Time Against The Henson's Hawk Invite Field
UNC Asheville and Delaware State will be meeting for the first time since 2004 in the tournament. The Bulldogs own a 1-0 all-time series lead. The Bulldogs and host Maryland Eastern Shore have faced off three times before with the Bulldogs owning the series lead at 2-1. The two have not played against one another since 2004. Asheville will be meeting Coppin State for the first time.
National Notoriety
The UNC Asheville volleyball team was featured earlier this month on the #espnWtop10. The Bulldogs were featured for a tremendous play during their match against No. 15 Florida State in the Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee Seminole Invitational when sophomore right side Ansley Rooks made an acrobatic kick save to keep the rally alive for the eventual Asheville point. The specialty play that earned her a top-10 spot is definitely not all that Rooks did though in the tournament as she was also named to the Home2 Suites by Hilton Tallahassee Seminole Invitational All-Tournament Team.
