BAA Scholarship Golf Classic Reaches New Heights in 2017

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's soccer sophomore student-athlete Frank Morales is really up front when talking about how important his scholarship is to him.
"Without the help of a scholarship, I don't think I'd even be here," Morales said. "The scholarships are very helpful."
An aspiring pediatrician from Greeley, Colo., Morales knows the opportunity to be a UNC Asheville student-athlete through a scholarship is because of so many supporting the Bulldogs.
Morales spoke these words on the second day of the 2017 Bulldog Athletic Association (BAA) Scholarship Golf Classic that was held on Monday, Aug. 28 and Tuesday, Aug. 29.
The annual event sponsored by Adidas, Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina and Harrah's Cherokee Casino Resort raises scholarship money for the UNC Asheville Athletics Annual Scholarship Fund.
The 2017 edition of the annual event raised a record-breaking over $120,000. Over the last five years, the BAA Scholarship Golf Classic has raised over $500,000.
"Due to the leadership of our golf committee, we have been able to raise over $500,000 over the last five years for student-athlete scholarships," UNC Asheville Senior Administrator for University Enterprises and Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone said. "We also could not do it without the great sponsors of this event. What we want you to know is what you are investing in is really something wonderful and special."
Senior baseball student-athlete Jesse Juday like Morales knows he is a great position because of the efforts of so many to make scholarships at UNC Asheville a reality.
"We truly appreciate your support for the student-athlete scholarships," Juday said. "Your support means a lot to our Pursuit of Greatness."
Cone overall is just once again incredibly thankful for the efforts of so many over the years to make the BAA Scholarship Golf Classic the huge success that it is every year.
"I would like to express my gratitude to all of the participants and volunteers who have made this tournament such a great success over the years," Cone said. "It truly takes an 'A' team to make all of this happen, and all of those that help us with UNC Asheville athletics are definitely a part of our 'A' team. The funds raised directly benefit the Athletics Scholarship Fund and allow our student-athletes to become Champions in Athletics and Leaders in Life."
