ATHENS, Ga. – UNC Asheville freshman middle blocker Ava Venema put together a strong first weekend as a Bulldog to garner All-Tournament honors at the Benson Hospitality Invitational.
Venema hit an impressive .372 in UNC Asheville's three matches to lead the Bulldogs in the category.
She was also incredibly proficient in the 3-0 sweep of George Mason on Friday, Aug. 25, as she connected on seven of her 10 (.700) attacks in the match.
Venema's 20 kills on the week were second only to UNC Asheville junior outside hitter Cara Guthrie, who ended her efforts in the three matches with 30 kills.

All three of the Bulldogs' opponents in Tallahassee advanced to the NCAA Tournament last season and boasted a combined record of 62-28.
On Friday, Sept. 1, Asheville will take on the host Seminoles and Colorado State. Both programs finished 2016 with more than 20 wins on the year and each finished second in their respective conference regular season standings. On Saturday, Sept. 2, UNC Asheville will face off against TCU.
