UNC Asheville Volleyball Great Jen Peterson Returns to Program as Assistant Coach

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville volleyball head coach Frederico Santos recently announced the addition of Jen Peterson as an assistant coach.
"I am pleased to have Jennifer Peterson added to the volleyball program," Santos said. "She brings a wealth of experience to the program as a coach in the area for 16 years, but also as a former member of the UNC Asheville volleyball team and an alum."
Jennifer Baker Peterson earned numerous accolades during her playing career. She was a two-time Big South All-Academic selection (1998 and 1999). Peterson garnered Big South All-Conference and All-Tournament honors in 1999.
Since graduating from UNC Asheville in 2000, she has worked the past 16 years with the Biltmore Volleyball Academy. She is also a former assistant coach at Mars Hill.
Peterson also has extensive high school head coaching experience at North Buncombe High School, Asheville School and North Henderson High School.
"I am very excited to be coaching at my alma matter and have the opportunity to coach with Coach Santos," Peterson said. "I am thankful to Janet R. Cone for this opportunity as well. I had a tremendous experience as a student-athlete at UNC Asheville and hope to bring my passion and knowledge to help further the great tradition of volleyball at Asheville."
Married to 1996 UNC Asheville graduate Brent Peterson, Jen Peterson and her family currently reside in Arden.
UNC Asheville will open the 2017 season at Georgia's Benson Invitational in Athens, Ga., for the second straight year. This season, the Bulldogs in blue and white will begin their season with a pair of matches against Long Island University – Brooklyn and George Mason on the first day of the tournament, Friday, Aug. 25. The following day, Asheville will face off against the host Bulldogs in red and black.
UNC Asheville will open Big South Conference play at home on Tuesday, Sept. 19, with a match against Gardner-Webb.
The 2017 squad will feature one of the youngest rosters in the conference with seven sophomores and four freshmen complemented by three juniors. Last season, the 2016 team went 12-16, reaching the Big South Conference Championship, with a roster comprised of seven freshmen, three sophomores, one junior and two seniors.
