UNC Asheville Cross Country Back on Campus in Preparation for 2017 Season

08.15.2017 | Cross Country

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville cross country team officially commenced their preseason preparations for the 2017 season on Tuesday, Aug. 15.

The Bulldogs originally returned to campus on Monday, Aug. 14, with the first day filled with the team getting settled in, meetings and team pictures.

UNC Asheville started things bright and early on Tuesday, Aug. 15, and head coach Jesse Norman could not be happier to kick off the hard work for the upcoming season.

"The first week of practice is always exciting to kind of see where everybody is, what they've done during the summer and the makeup of the team," Norman said. "We've got a much smaller roster this year, but I think we'll be okay. I'm not overly concerned about it at this point, and maybe we can work on some things that we might not have been able to do with a larger roster. We'll see what we look like over the first couple of days. It's usually a good indicator."

The Bulldogs will open the 2017 season by traveling to Boone, N.C. on Friday, Sept. 1, to compete in the Covered Bridge Open. The meet hosted by Appalachian State gets underway at 5 p.m.

The Bulldogs will host their lone meet of the year to close out their efforts in the month of September in the Asheville Cross Country Invitational. The meet to be held at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Asheville Christian Academy will be part of UNC Asheville's annual Homecoming celebration.
