ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Senior Administrator for University Enterprises and Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone has announced that Erin Punter Spence will transition from her current role to Assistant Director of Compliance and Student Services.
In her role, Spence will also work with the UNC Asheville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
"I am very excited to announce that Erin has accepted this new role," Cone said. "In addition to excelling in marketing, one of the things that Erin truly has a passion for is working with student-athletes and coaches on a daily basis. I believe her new role will position her to make strategic improvements in the overall student-athlete experience."
Entering her 14th year at UNC Asheville, Spence most recently served as the Director of Marketing and Fan Engagement. Spence was primarily responsible for building the UNC Asheville athletics brand through community marketing and in-game entertainment for the Bulldogs' 16 athletics teams.
"My family and I are grateful for this new exciting opportunity," Spence said. "I look forward to the challenge of this new position and working more closely with our student-athletes as they pursue their academic endeavors."
In her time in Asheville, Spence has been active in National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), serving as a member of the organization's strategic communications committee from 2013-2017 and leading a session on marketing at Division I non-football schools at the national convention in 2015. Spence also served as a member of the membership committee for Women Leaders in College Sports (formerly known as NACWAA) during the 2015-2016 school year.
Spence came to Asheville from the University of Arkansas where she earned her Master's Degree in Sport Management in 2004, while serving as a Graduate Assistant for Marketing. Prior to Arkansas, Spence was the Marketing Assistant at Xavier University.
Spence received her Bachelor's Degree from the Indiana University in Sport Marketing and Management in 2001. She was a member of the inaugural women's rowing team and twice earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
In her role, Spence will also work with the UNC Asheville Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
