Smith Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville senior Caleb Smith has been selected to the 2016-17 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® 3 Men's Track & Field/Cross Country first-team.
As a first-team selection, Smith is now eligible to garner CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.
Boasting a 3.927 grade point average, Smith graduated from UNC Asheville recently with a Chemistry degree.
"This is a huge honor for Caleb to get this recognition," UNC Asheville track and field head coach Jesse Norman said. "Over his time here at UNC Asheville, he's been everything you could ask for in a student-athlete. This honor will mean a ton to him and the program in demonstrating that you can come here and get a great education while pursuing your Division I athletic goals."
A member of the cross country and track and field teams at UNC Asheville, Smith earlier this athletic year was chosen to the 2016 Big South Men's Cross Country All-Academic Team.
The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the sixth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America® honorees will be selected next month.
