Bulldog Track and Field Travels to Beynon Sports Catamount Classic this Weekend

ASHEVILLE, N.C.—The UNC Asheville track and field teams will travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to compete in the Beynon Sports Catamount Classic hosted by Western Carolina at the Catamount Athletic Complex this weekend. The invitational will be held April 14-15, with action beginning at 2 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.

ABOUT THE EVENT: The Beynon Sports Catamount Classic has been hosted by Western Carolina for nine straight years. This year the meet will feature almost hundreds of athletes from 15 different institutions, including one other squad from the Big South Conference in Radford.

TEAMS COMPETING: There will be 15 institutions competing in the event, including Concord (W), ETSU (W/M), Furman (W/M), Georgia State (W), King (W/M), Lee-McRae (W/M), Mercer (W), Milligan (W/M), Montreat (W/M), Montreat (W/M), UNC Asheville (W/M), UNC Asheville Club (M), North Greenville (W/M), Radford (W), Western Carolina (W/M), Wheeling Jesuit (W/M) and Wofford (W/M).
 
ABOUT THE TRACK: The Catamount Athletic Complex features an eight-lane, 400-meter Benyon 1000 System track with two pole vault and jump runways on the south end with pits adorning either end. The sprint lanes at the CAC are located on the back stretch directly across from the grandstand seating to provide full-race viewing for spectators.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The last time the UNC Asheville track and field team competed was March 31- April 1 when the Bulldogs traveled to High Point, N.C., to participate in the ninth annual VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point.

BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE AWARDS: Two Bulldogs picked up big awards at the conclusion of the Big South Indoor Championships with Matthew Harding tying for league Freshman of the Year accolades and Hunter Koike being tabbed as the men's track and field Scholar Athlete of the Year.

UP NEXT: Following this weekend's competition, the Bulldog men and women will next travel to Durham, N.C., to compete in the Duke Invite. The meet will be hosted by Duke April 21-22.
