ABOUT THE EVENT: The VertKlasse Meeting has been hosted by High Point for nine straight years. This year the meet will feature almost 1,600 athletes from 45 different schools, including teams from several Big South Conference institutions: Campbell, Gardner-Webb, High Point, Liberty, Radford and UNC Asheville.
Â
ABOUT THE TRACK: Belk Track at Vert Stadium is an eight-lane Benyon surface with wide-radius turns. An additional throwing area was constructed in 2011, providing areas for shot put, discus and javelin competition.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: The last time the UNC Asheville track and field team competed was March 24-25 when the Bulldogs traveled to Columbia, S.C., to participate in the Weems Baskin Relays for the inaugural meet at the newly dedicated Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.
PRESEASON PICKS: The Big South Conference released its 2017 Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Polls on Thursday, March 23. The Asheville men's team was picked to finish seventh while the women's squad was picked to finish eighth. Liberty University was picked first in both the men's and women's polls.
BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE AWARDS: Two Bulldogs picked up big awards at the conclusion of the Big South Indoor Championships with Matthew Harding tying for league Freshman of the Year accolades and Hunter Koike being tabbed as the men's track and field Scholar Athlete of the Year.

QUOTABLES
"We're looking forward to the VertKlasse Meeting this weekend. Like last weekend, this will be a good size team with over 40 teams. We'll be facing lots of Big South Conference competition so we'll get a good idea of the progress we've made since the indoor championships. After this weekend we'll get a break to get some good training in and then make our final push for the outdoor championships." --Head Coach Jesse Norman
