Bulldogs Conclude Efforts at Buccaneer Invitational

THE MEET
Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational
Location: Mountain States Health Alliance Athletics Center / Johnson City, Tenn.
Dates: Feb. 2-4

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. -- The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition at the three-day Buccaneer Track and Field Invitational Saturday afternoon.

The day began with sophomore Kelley Coleman running the one mile in 5:24.28, placing her in 14th. On the men's side, junior Dominic Collichio followed with a fourth-place finish in the event with a time of 4:23.04.

Junior Kayli Nichols placed third in the women's 800 meters, fifth all-time for the Bulldogs, with a time of 2:17.70.  Nichols also turned in a top-15 finish in the women's 200 meters (25.78).

Seniors Amy Castle (10:44.40) and Sarah Heisner (10:48.89) placed 6th and 7th respectively in the women's 3000 meters.

BREAKING RECORDS: Nichols maintained her solid start to the season with a top-three finish in the women's 800, which is fifth-best all-time for the Bulldogs.  She finished top-15 as well in the women's 200. Yesterday she set the fourth-best 200 meter time for the program. Nichols also turned in a pair of strong performances last weekend, establishing school bests in both the 60 meter hurdles and the 500 meter dash.
 
UP NEXT:  With competition concluded in Johnson City, the Bulldog men and women will next travel to Huntington, W. Va., to compete in the Chipotle Marshall Invitational next weekend, Feb. 10-11.
