Special Final Day for Bulldogs at Big South Indoor Championships

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. — The UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams concluded competition at the Big South Indoor Championships on Sunday afternoon at the JDL Fast Track.

Kelley Coleman began the afternoon by finishing with a time of 5:25.74 in the women's one mile run to post a top-10 finish in the event.

Asheville's Dominic Collichio came in ninth place in the men's one mile run with a time of 4:20.83.

Freshman Tyree McFalling posted a time of 51.29 in the men's 400 meters finals, finishing in seventh place for the Bulldogs.

Kayli Nichols had a top-5 finish in the 60 meter hurdles finals with a time of 8.89 seconds. Nichols also finished seventh in the women's 800 meters finals with a time of 2:18.17.

Bulldog freshman Matthew Harding brought home the gold medal, placing first in the men's 800 meters, with a time of 1:52.57, which just fell short of the Championship record of 1:52.43.

Jason Perry also placed first in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:45.33. Perry finished in ninth place in the heptathlon with a total of 3,293 points.

Seniors Amy Castle and Sarah Heisner both finished in the top-15 in the women's 5000 meters finals with times of 18:25.64 and 18:38.95, respectively.

Collichio posted another top-10 finish, alongside Zach Boone, in the men's 5000 meters finals with times of 15:23.73 and 15:25.05, respectively.

The afternoon concluded with the men's and women's 4x400 meter relay. The women's team placed sixth with a time of 4:00.02 and the men's team finished third with a time of 3:25.23.

BULLDOG BITES
TOP FIVE FINISH: Kayli Nichols continued her strong championship weekend performance with a top-5 finish in the 60 meter hurdles, posting a time of 8.89 seconds.
 
BRINGING HOME THE GOLD: Matthew Harding posted a first place finish in the men's 800 meters, leading the race wire to wire, with a time of 1:52.57 to bring the first place gold medal back to Asheville for the Bulldogs.
 
SENIORS SHINE: Bulldog seniors Amy Castle and Sarah Heisner each posted a top-15 finish in the women's 5000 meters. 

UP NEXT: The Bulldog men and women will have nearly a month break in preparation for the Yellow Jacket Invite. The meet will be held in Atlanta, Ga. from March 17-18.
