12.19.2017 | Track and Field
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Head coach Jesse Norman announced the signing of six newcomers that will join the UNC Asheville men's and women's track and field teams for the 2018-19 season.
Women's Additions
Khadeesha Crumbley / Sprints / Auburn, Ala. / Auburn HS
The Auburn, Ala. native comes to UNC Asheville as a product of Auburn High School. Crumbley has personal records in the 100m (12.34), 200m (25.27) and 400m (57.45).
Coach Norman's Thoughts: "Khadeesha is a sprinter that we targeted early in the process. She is someone that will help to increase the quality and depth of our women's long sprint program. Under Joel's tutelage, we feel that she will develop into a high-quality sprinter in the Big South Conference."
Sydney DeBerry / Jumps and Sprints / Greensboro, N.C. / Page HS
A native of Greensboro, N.C., DeBerry comes to Asheville as a product of Page High School. She set personal records in several events including 100m (12.64), 200m (26.71), 300m (43.91), long jump (17-7.50) and triple jump (35-11.00).
Coach Norman's Thoughts: "Sydney is a North Carolina product whom I believe has tremendous upside in the jumping events. I'm excited to have the opportunity to work with her as I believe she will be an incredible teammate and a valuable addition to the jumps program."
Alyx Evans / Middle Distance / Hartford, Wis. / Hartford HS
As the only incoming freshman out of that state of Wisconsin, Evans comes to UNC Asheville as a middle distance runner for the Bulldogs. She has personal records in the 800m (2:16.91) and 5k (20:07.09).
Coach Norman's Thoughts: "Alyx comes to UNC Asheville from the Midwest. With her speed in the 800m, I believe that she will flourish within our program and will develop into a solid contributor in the fall along with the 400m-1500m events during the spring."
Madeline Nichols / Long Distance / Columbus, Ohio / Upper Arlington HS
Nichols is a long distance runner out of Columbus, Ohio where she graduated from Upper Arlington High School. She set a trio of personal records in the 1600m (5:24.38), 3200m (11:36.93) and 5k (18:49.00).
Coach Norman's Thoughts: "Madeline is another Ohio product from the same high school as current Bulldog Megan Brewer. She will be a good long distance addition to the program that will bolster the women's distance program next year."
Men's Additions
Jeff Blake / Hurdles / Mooresville, N.C. / Mooresville HS
Blake will begin his collegiate career at UNC Asheville as a graduate of Mooresville High School in Mooresville, N.C. He set personal records in the 110m hurdles (14.80) and the 300mH (39.21).
Coach Norman's Thoughts: "Jeff is a North Carolina product and is a hurdler that we targeted to bolster our men's hurdle program. His addition will give us a quality hurdler that could score points in a traditionally weak event within the Big South Conference."
Nick Roberts / Hurdles / Clearwater, Fla. / Countryside HS
As the lone native of Florida in the incoming freshmen class, Roberts comes to Asheville as a product of Countryside High School in Clearwater, Fla. He competed in four events in high school where he set personal records the 55mH (7.91), 60mH (8.49), 110mH (14.56) and 300mH (39.93).
Coach Norman's Thoughts: "Nick is a hurdler that we targeted early in the recruiting process. As a coaching staff, we made the decision to bolster the depth and quality of our men's hurdle program, and I feel that we did a good job with the addition of Nick."
